They Followed Me......

I am reminded, today, of when we finished the crossing, which granted the horses access to the barn and their winter quarters. Kevin had set up a single hotwire to keep the horses from venturing off the path into the creek, and he hung plastic bags along the strand every five feet or so. I typically use thin strips of plastic to warn horses off a fence, but my husband apparently perceived that entire plastic grocery bags were the best option. It was breezy that day - just windy enough for those bags to move in the breeze, and I thought there was no way that the horses would traverse that unfamiliar span of gravel across the creek, but I set out to find them.

I found them on the hill. With a hopeful thought and intention that they might follow me, I moved towards them. Taffy spotted me first and immediately called out, as is her heart-warming tendency. Ribbon moved towards me, and the rest of the herd followed. I simply turned and walked towards the open gate at the crossing. To my surprise and gratitude, the horses simply followed, allowing me to lead them. Together, we walked past the scary bags dancing madly in the wind, passing over a creek never seen, to an area of our property the horses had never set foot on. And yet, calmly, quietly, in an orderly fashion and without hesitation, they followed me. The experience touched and filled my heart in a way I cannot describe. I had no halters, leads, grain buckets, or even twine, and yet they followed me - followed through the invisible lines of a trust relationship. Oh, what would life be like to trust God in that same way?!!
